Bitcoiner Charlie Shrem to auction off treasured items

In honor of the tenth anniversary of his release from prison, the early -investor will sell memorabilia at .

Shrem was arrested in January 2014 and accused of attempting to sell over $1 million worth of BTC to users of the closed darknet marketplace . Charlie pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to two years in prison, but was released in September 2015.

Remembering this significant date for him, Shrem decided to put up for auction on the Scarce City platform 12 items related to his time behind bars and the development of the Bitcoin ecosystem. Among these items were, for example, the first issue of the magazine Bitcoin Magazine, published in May 2012, an identification card issued in the name of the prisoner Shrem, and a ring with the Bitcoin logo.

Some of the items up for auction

The auction starts on September 16th in the evening Moscow time, and Charlie is not saying how much money he expects to make. He is unlikely to outbid Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, sold personal items worth $1,8 million after his release in January 2025. The highest bid of $574,321 was for a prisoner identification card in Ulbricht’s name, so it can be assumed that the most expensive lot from Shrem’s collection will be a similar item issued to him by prison authorities.
