Bitget exchange will donate $1,54 million (HKD 12,000,000) to support families affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, Hong Kong, and to assist with the recovery of the local community.
The donation comes in response to one of Hong Kong’s most tragic fires in decades: a five-story blaze that engulfed several towers of the Wang Fuk Court residential complex on November 26, claiming at least 128 lives, injuring more than 70 people, and forcing over 900 residents to temporarily evacuate their homes.
Authorities have opened a criminal case and are conducting an anti-corruption investigation into the quality of the repair work and materials used, while emergency services continue search and rescue operations. Families are still trying to find their missing relatives.
To ensure a structured, transparent and targeted distribution of aid, Bitget has commissioned three of Hong Kong’s most reputable charities to handle the donation of HKD 12,000,000 (approximately US$1,54 million).
Yan Chai Hospital will receive HKD 5,000,000 ($640,000) to provide emergency medical care, treatment for victims, and family rehabilitation. The Salvation Army Hong Kong will receive HKD 3,500,000 (approximately $450,000) to provide financial assistance, temporary housing, essential supplies, and support to households that have lost their homes and income. Po Leung Kuk will use the HKD 3,500,000 (approximately $450,000) to provide psychological support, community outreach, and long-term care to victims, families of the deceased, and vulnerable residents of the area.
