The head of Poland’s intelligence services accused Russia of paying for sabotage with cryptocurrency.

The head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, Sławomir Cęckiewicz, stated that Russian authorities are using for hybrid attacks on EU countries.

According to him, this concerns funding attempts to hack water supply systems and other critical infrastructure.

In September, members of Poland’s lower house of parliament approved a bill to tighten regulation of the cryptoasset market, which would impose prison sentences for those who fail to comply with oversight rules.

Tsenzkevich said the bill should also be seen as a tool to limit Russian funding channels.

Polish intelligence services are very interested in this entire legislative process to ensure that there are no loopholes that would allow foreign powers to use [cryptocurrency] to finance their agents.

If you look at cyberspace, Poland is now in a state of war [with Russia]… – Cęckiewicz added.

According to some EU politicians, after Russia was cut off from the SWIFT payment system, cryptocurrencies have begun to be actively used to circumvent Western sanctions.

Over the past year, Warsaw has closed two Russian consulates and expelled several Russian and Belarusian diplomats accused of aiding sabotage plans.
