Buterin was awarded the Order of Merit of Liberland, First Class, during the ETHPrague 2026 conference, where he participated in the Network State event sponsored by the microstate.
Liberland said the medal recognizes Buterin’s «outstanding technical achievements» and «his role in advancing new ideas about how societies can organize.»
Buterin was also praised for his focus on «temporary cities, decentralized societies, and networked states.»
