A Buenos Aires judge ruled immediately and completely block Polymarket throughout Argentina. This applies to both internet providers across the country and Google and Apple, which have been ordered to remove the apps. polymarket from its stores to all Argentine users, including those who have already installed the platform.
The judge’s decision was prompted by a complaint from the Buenos Aires City Lottery and the Argentine Chamber of Casino and Bingo Hall Owners. The prosecutor’s office found that polymarket operated as a covert online betting system, accepting payments in cryptocurrency and credit cards without identity verification or age verification.
According to Judge Parada, all of these characteristics significantly increase the risks for users, including minors. The key legal point was the lack of any local license to operate.
According to Argentine law, operating a gambling platform without a permit is prohibited, regardless of how the service positions itself. Furthermore, the authorities were not happy with how polymarket reacted to the February inflation data, which was 2,9%. The platform changed its forecast just 15 minutes before the data was released, which seemed suspicious.
Argentina is not the first country to impose a ban on polymarketLast year, Colombia imposed a similar restriction. In February 2026, Dutch regulators ordered the platform to cease operations. In Portugal, it was closed after more than $120 million in bets were placed on the presidential election. Now the work polymarket is restricted or under close scrutiny by law enforcement agencies in more than 30 countries.
